I wish this post was about me base jumping, but unfortunately it's not.. Someday!
I have lived in Twin Falls for almost three years now (in August) and have never watched a base jumper actually jump. I see them all the time getting ready to jump as we drive by, but like life is, we are always in a hurry and can't stop to watch. So when I saw on FB that a base jumper/biker dude was going to jump to spread the ashes of a Vietnam Veteran who's dream was always to base jump the Perrine Bridge, I was excited to go watch and finally see a jumper actually jump!
When Case and I got there, there were a bunch of Vietnam Veterans in uniform and a bunch of biker guys also in "uniform" ;) flying flags on their bikes.
After waiting for a long time, and watching another base jumper jump (it was awesome!!), the base jumper finally started walking across the bridge to the middle, where he jumps. It must take the jumpers a long time to get ready to jump because I was holding my phone up, ready to video for a long time and he still wasn't ready so I put it down. I was wearing long pants and a long sleeve shirt because I didn't think it was going to be that warm, but standing there got really hot so I rolled my pants up and started to mess around with my shirt deciding to take it off or not (I had an undershirt on!), and some one says there he goes! When they said there he goes, I was thinking he was climbing over the railing getting ready to jump (because that's what the other guy that jumped today did, and he even held on there for a minute leaning off the railing).. So I hurry and stop messing around with my shirt, pick up my phone and try to get it zoomed all the while thinking please don't jump yet, please don't jump yet.. and low and behold my phone was on picture instead of video, so instead of taking a video, I was taking a bunch of random pictures of the canyon trying to figure out what the heck! And all the while I was doing all this, and while I was thinking "there he goes" meant he was climbing over the railing, the jumper had gotten on top of the railing, jumped, done a front flip, spread the ashes and was finishing his fall before I could even look up.. "There he goes" meant.. There he Goes! I was so mad and bummed that I had missed it all!! And I didn't even get a good video, let alone a good picture :( So it was a cool event, if I would have saw it.. :) But at least I can finally say I have watched a base jumper jump!
